I received an email this morning with a Red Alert from Aurora watch.
This means that there is a fairly good chance of a sighting tonight.

It might come to nothing but on the other hand it is worth keeping an eye on the sky just in case

"AuroraWatch Alert, 11:07 UT  28 Oct 2009:
VERY LARGE increase in local activity, possible SSC.

there is currently an active sunspot on the surface of the sun and it has been producing class C CME's (coronal mass ejections).  We'll need a class A ejection if we're going to see anything spectacular.

Its the most active of the year which tells you how few sunspots there has been this year.

But hopefully, this is the start of a new cycle of sunspot activity and therefore a new aurora season.

well, I will post if it looks like there might be some activity.

I tend to check between 8-10pm so if I see anything, I'll be straight in to post.
