While dog walking, me and Kimmie thought we spotted a huge stand of Rowan berries.
Upon closer inspection they were not Rowan and we were confused as to the tree's identity.
I have done some searching and I think the trees are Whitebeam. But would like clarification from someone with more tree knowledge than I have please

yeah, its whitebeam. You can tell by the white underneath of the leaves.
They were occasionally used as boundry markers. In the wind, the white underneath is very distinctive.

| I moved into sheltered housing last December and there are several of these trees. They looked like Rowans but the leaves are different and I've been wondering what they were. I think you've just given me the answer. Thanks. |

| Yes, it does look like Swedish whitebeam. Common whitebeam is the native one and is lovely with even whiter backs to the leaves, a great rusty look in Autumn and few serrations in the leaves. Unfortunately it is fairly difficult to get as it crosses so easily with the Swedish one that the nurserymen find it hard to get pure seed anymore. |
