There are quite stringent regs about spraying, adding nitrates, slurry disposal and so on. They are only permitted to do it at certain times of the year and not if there has been heavy rainfall or anything similar like snow (which can melt and wash things into the wrong places).
If a landowner isn't complying with any of these rules he would have to answer to DEFRA. In theory at least, they shouldn't find their way into your water supply.
For some weird reason the Scottish office insist on sending us all the blurb about this stuff even though we're only a 3 acre holding, but if anyone wants a keek at them any time you're more than welcome. Might justify them sending them a bit more  _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness
