|
|
I want a trio of apple trees an eater, a keeper, and a cooker. Eaterwise I love Discovery and cookerwise like Bramleys seedling. The keeper I'm undecided on maybe Ashmeads Kernal, hopefully something Victoriana sell? Any recomendations and are the ones I've chosen suitable for this area? Many thanks. _________________ Who cares about a little chicken poo on the carpet? |

I haven't had any success with eating apples yet, but my garden is really exposed to the wind, so might have better luck when the windbreak grows.
But the house next door has a Bramley tree that groans with the weight of fruit it produces _________________ Sassinak

Yep same here the first thing we did was plant the willow hedge, rediculously windy today I thought the chicken house would be the other end of the garden last night! _________________ Who cares about a little chicken poo on the carpet? |

I did have a bramley apple tree growing until my springer munched all the apples off it, then proceeded to turn lumberjack and destroy the whole thing..
I really must plant another one, but give it some serious protection next time..
My next door neighbour has an eater and a cooker in hers, and like sass's neighbour, they are positively groaning with the weight of the apples on them.
I agree that Discovery are lovely eaters |

Me too - our Discovery has been magnificent this year. We've got a Katie tree but the apples are blemished and not as nearly as tasty as the Discovery, we will have to juice them.
I've got 2 Bramley trees from Morrisons - £4.99 each - but they are very slow to get going. One apple this year! I don't think it pays to get cheap trees.
Fruit trees are amazing - you get them carbon-gobbling, AND you get all that free food with very little imput. _________________ Local food - better by far! |

Plus they are the perfect partner to bees! Maybe 2011, plenty to do setting up next year. _________________ Who cares about a little chicken poo on the carpet? |
