Okay we have managed to luck out and have got a house with a HUGE garden at over an acre.
We both quite fancy keeping some birds of some sort for eggs at least and maybe the odd bird for eating
So where is the best place to learn about keeping chickens or ducks, or a book to read or website to visit.

For helpful advice ask here lol
Or failing that I'm sure wg won't mind if I plug the competition - practical poultry forum are a really know;edgeable lot and always willing to help.
For books - anything by Kate Thear will be worth reading (I think I got the spelling right !!) _________________ Sassinak

I bought a Katie Thear book which helped loads (on loan right now,) a year ago when I got my first three hens. I got hybrids, which aren't complicated. They lay loads, get very tame and aren't too flightly. Pretty robust too. I asked loads of questions here too. A year later I've 12 and am doing OK. (Touch wood.) And loving every minute of it.
Good luck.

And don't spend a fortune on your first lot of hens because you won't know if you're buying good stock or not at this stage and may get ripped off - don't get into bidding frenzies at Thainstone either, where there is often more money than sense. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

Bit late here, sorry. I'm a mod at the poultry keepers forums, we have a section on housing, where to buy and photos of what members have. No daft questions, but sometimes daft answers!
