The 1911 census is online at last.  It is only England and Wales though and I haven't had the patience (dial up ) to see if Scotlands People is following suit.
It didn't take long to answer most of my family history queries but as usual, there is one that I can't find anywhere.
Lisa.

I think they said that Scotlands census for 1911 won't be released until 2011 - it's annoying having to wait for a release every 10 years isn't it?  I'm back to the mid 1500's on part of my family tree but have hit a brick wall on another part in the 1800's I keep saying i will give up but always seem to drift back to is - think I'm addicted.

I believe that the 1911 census isn't 'that complete' though, I'm sure that was the one that was quite badly damaged at one point.
I'll be going on there for a look anyway as I still need to do some more searching in Birmingham.

I think I read somewhere that parts of the 1911 census was water damaged.  Probably the part where our Duncan must be hiding.  The 1851 census suffered the same fate and smack in the bit of Lancashire I needed as well.
At least we can eventually see most of these censuses, I believe Australia destroyed a lot of theirs.

Actually to keep all those paper records for so long is probably quite an achievement.  I remember on a visit to the Avebury stone circle a few years ago seeing a story in the museum about a man who, many years earlier had been crushed while trying to drop the stones to clear the area for farmers.  Quite a few skeletons were found when the stones were lifted again but this particular chap was sent off to a museum in London and was promptly blown to bits during the blitz.  Some artefacts just aren't destined to survive

On the point of the Scottish redords, I believe there is a 2 year delay from what I was told yesterday....
