Hi

I've got a hen who flatly refuses to lay in the hen house.   It means that I'm not getting the eggs from her.  She sneaks off and lays in secret.  She isn't sitting, she just likes to lay away from the rest of the rabble.

On a saturday I can follow her in the morning and find her new nest, but for the rest of the week, I go to work too early to follow her.

Is there any way I can make her lay in one place.

I'm going to try and build a special box nest just for her, and put it somewhere sheltered, but how do I get her to use it?

I would love the answer to this
we too have a chicken, that started laying this summer - but always outside under nettle bush....
so at least it is always in the same place
i too am thinking of putting a little hut there so at least she lays egg inside
she lays the egg early in day, so i am hoping as the daylight shortens she might be forced to lay an egg in the henhouse before she goes out!

How is Mark Brierley getting on in Houston?

Is this hen a bantam by any chance?

no, just a regular hen.

Although I did notice that our silkies this morning were trying to bounce anything they could get their feathers on...strange since they are so small.
