I know it used to be the case that you were required to have your private water supply checked every two years to make sure it was still safe to drink. It may have changed of course, but I can't see any reason why they would abandon that rule.
I'm only guessing here, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a legal requirement for all landlords to keep up to date with such matters. It would be in their own interests to do so in case a tennant became ill and sued them. It probably isn't anything sinister MN. _________________ It is better to light a candle than to rail against the darkness

I think theyve now put the onus on property owners to have checks done to ensure the water supply is safe. Its an offence for it not to be safe. As a landlord to show hes complied with this requirement he would need to do regular tests, which would probably be deeemed to be every couple of years. But ideally that would be on top of fitting the filters as if slurry or something gets in it can happen in a day.
I got the filters cos although Im strong and healthy I worried about visitors (oldies and babies especially). _________________ Happiness is a Haflinger! |

yep its a good point about filters, they are a good idea anyhow since if you only test every few years it might be a while before contamination is detected. if you have a filter then you can forgot about getting retested.

yep, another reason for using ceramic filters, you know when they need replacing since they get clogged up and they dont use electricty either. personally Im not a fan of UV filters since they consume energy regardless of water demand. ceramic filters will remove just about anything eg nitrates etc whereas UV justs kills bugs.

urgg, I wont be rushing, tennants is only fit for flushing the toilet. I'd certainly be fitting a ceramic filter if it was tennants.
