Knew it couldn't last, but it's always a bit sad to see the last of the Martins & Swallows.

Thursday there were loads in the sky - catching great mothfuls of midges & clegs. By Sunday, they were all gone. The sky is so quiet now.

Autumn can't be far away - we have a Buck Roe in one of our fields - he seems to lurk in the margins - he's barking madly, trying to attract some new company.

Anyone else lost their summer lodgers?

yep, the last straggler swallow left on Friday :-(( and we followed a very sedate buck up the track while he barked his invitations to all and sundry on Sat evening! The robin has reappeared singing for all he is worth...

We still had swallows yesterday, but haven't noticed any today

we still had swallows and housemartins this evening, also noticed the starlings are gathering in huge groups as are the rooks....wont be long before we see the geese fly over!

still got swallows down here - but guess that's not a big surprise. Will all be gone by the time I get back up in October.
