Bampot Central? seem to remember it being one of those odd plays on Radio 3.

how about Mustrum Ridcully, quite a magical guy...

ah yes, the archchancellor of the unseen university in ankh-morpork.  He's in many terry prachett books.

how about george wingrove?

its a famous book about him and two friends and a dog who go on a journey
