255 reported in the UK so far.

Should we be worried yet? Time to start boosting the immune system?

ironically the most useful thing I came away from my banking career with was a supply of Tamiflu !!! did business travel to Hong Kong when bird flu scare was at its height....hopefully wont need it tho.

I think it is creeping up to be an issue this winter, although in the absence of other health issues it will probably not be as bad.

I think the real threat of it is if it mutates at all, I think that's what they are really worried about, as then a stronger variant of it would spread quickly (like this one) but have more serious consequences.

I think in most cases, if you are reasonably healthy, then this (and other colds/flus) shouldn't affect you anywhere near as badly as someone who already has breathing problems, etc.

If it was an outbreak of Bubonic Plague again, then I'd be worried.

To be honest the fact that the whole country was sent a multi page leaflet in a variety of languages and therefore destroying countless more trees was more worrying to me.

Was I the only one who found this leaflet useless, patronising and scaremongering?A complete waste of time, money, trees and resources.Mine went straight in the compost bin-it might do some good in there.

Yes they were overly concerned with the 1918 Spanish flu either, during the summer out break.

The winter came and they regretted their complacency!

This strain is a new strain and there is currently no vaccine available, hopefully by the winter there will be.

It is the fit and the healthy this strain apparently attack first, who then pass it on to the less healthy.  That's what the concern is, the spread to the those who are are vulnerable. So no I don't think the leaflet was scaremongering, it was much needed information so the wider community is prepared for what is likely to come.

Or do I have this wrong and this is more a case of I'm alright Jack?

Been reading my new Green Pharmacy book (thanks for draggin me in the Portsoy shop David!! Such a fab place) I'll be boosting our immune systems over the winter...in the hope that it passes us by. Yep, it's a bit 'I'm alright Jack' but some of the preventative immune boosters are free, or at little costs. Beats queuing up for a vaccine that may or may not work and lines the pockets of the Pharma.
