I think Kemnay has or had a LETS scheme ... does anyone know anything about that? I used to live there (more than 10 years ago) but at the time couldn't think of anything I could usefully contribute to the scheme.
I went to a workshop on local currencies/ LETS schemes / time banks last week and came away wanting to know a lot more about it. Particularly, how can we run an alternative 'currency' which doesn't link directly to Pounds Sterling? The goal being to find a way of transacting which isn't tied into the crazy ups and downs of the economy which have happened lately, and are likely to get a heck of a lot worse over the coming months/ years as the 'quantitative easing' has an effect.
Anyone got any ideas on this? The Time Bank sounded like it had potential, but the guy who was leading the workshop said it tended to be used mostly for services rather than goods. Presumably it'd be possible to create a barter system that traded goods for services and vice versa ? _________________ Be the change you want to see in the world |

Have been thinking (and talking to anyone who will listen) about this for a long time. I'll post my thoughts from discussions I've had about this, and the info I've watched and read. Fair busy just now....but I'll be back. _________________ Better late than never! |

I don't think that we should let our geographical spread get in the way of this kind of thing - Iain is right, we can take advantage of our Neepy Network - we already do this at times eg someone picking up from the food co-op and taking it back to others in their area, or picking up something from Freecycle to avoid extra journeys for people. We borrowed Iain's drain rods and these were collected via the network and returned the same way. _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

A poultry forum that I vist has this down to a fine art lol
Due to the restrictions on transporting live animals, there is no real way to get poultry from a to b.
They have a thread on the forum where people state where they are and what journeys they are likely to undertake.
I remember recently that some ducks went from Lancashire to Kent (I think it was) being passed on like a relay. They were moved by about 6 different people and were stopped and watered and given a rest at a couple of points. But it does work !!! If it can be done like that on a national scale, then surely we can manage it within Aberdeenshire _________________ Sassinak

Iain - having spent 4 months up north thanks to Sass and Phil, I can confidently tell you that you live in a densely populated NEEPS area... Down here - the nearest is about 15 - 20 miles away, and that's only two. After that, it's over the hill and 30 miles. Just too far to go for anything, really.
I love the idea, and I wish there were more NEEPS down this way! But I really haven't met anybody yet in Bervie who I feel I could suggest NEEPS to - they are just not the kind of folk. I'm sure there are some here, but it's difficult to know where to find them. _________________ Ina |

I know there will be privacy issues with this, but.. perhaps we could have a map of regular journeys? I daresay something could be done with google maps or somesuch, it might even be updateable. |

Ina - print off some of the Neeps leaflets, pretty sure that they are on the forum somewhere and if not I'll upload the file - ask if you can put some up in local shops. Same goes for anyone - prefer that they were printed on recycled paper as it says that on the leaflet but we can always take that off if it proves difficult. _________________ Neeps Flickr Group - check out some of the fab photos from other Neepsters and share some of your own. |

Would have to do that in the library - 55p for a colour print.... OK, b&w is only 10p. I'll see. Once I've got this blimming application out of the way. _________________ Ina |
