was down in englandshire this week picking up granny and went to the market bought so much stuff cheep stuff its taken 3 days to get it all cooked

so far made
37 jars of strawberry jam bought a full case of strawberrys for £3 were all smaller than the avarage grape so took a couple of hours to hull them all

got a carrier bag of damsons for £2 so now have 24 jars of damson jam - never again took houirs to get all the stones out

have also filled the freezer with carrots and onions £2.50 for a 15kg sack so ended up with two of carrots one of red and one white onions, also have a heap of onions pickling

made a huge batch of green tomato chutney (only got one going re so far ) managed to get a box of slight sub apples for £2 so with ar ake in the cupbord now have 20 jars of chutney

and the best find was when i turned of the duel carriage way to look at the map and found a heap of blackthorn bushes laden with well ripe fruit so now have a demi john of gin one of vodka and some left to do whiskey with

more apples and carrots to do
why oh why do we not have a decent market around here,

you'll only say never again about the damsons until you taste the nectar I reckon! Agree with you about the markets tho. it would be lovely if there was a thriving regular one for fruit and veg and stuff. Framers markets are good for the specialist bits and I get a veggie box but when you want to make use of seasonal gluts it would be good to be able to buy a lot.

It is the one thing that most of miss about England I think.
The variety of shops and the markets.
We were down in Englandshire a few weeks ago and needed a shoehorn to get the last of the stuff into the car for the journey home.

I am going down again next week, but unfortunately it's only a flying visit for a funeral so won't get much chance to shop :-(

The best food deals that I found in Yorkshire the other week were in the Asian stores.
Onons £3 a sack and mutton chops were £4 a kilo. It's rare to find mutton for sale and certainly not at that price !!
