workshop craft group hosting

i was thinking once the spring comes we should do one a month in the buchan area, thats sort of banff to peterhead area, and also once a month in the huntly area, so its possible for more people, so it would be once a fortnight if you see what i mean.
firstly is there anyone intereseted in hosting, now and again, if so leave a post here, or with an opinion.  also if you state what you have in the way of premises, ie  workshop or living room, so appropriate crafts can be done in appropriate places

i for one will start with my name

My place second!!

unheated steading for woodturning, routing, pyrography, wool dyeing, stick making, willow weaving, hurdle making, etc....

I'm not saying that I can do all of the above but it gives you an idea that it's dirty big stuff rather than indoor cleaner crafts if you see what I mean....
Smooth Hound

great
Forget-me-Not

Crafts in two areas

I think it's a great idea and at some point will add my name to a Huntly area hosting but right now up to my ears in stuff and unable to think straight or clear, so unable to commit at present..

I think I've been on the internet too long... you don't wanna know what I originally read that as... thought NEEPS was getting a bit "racey"

Maybe during the summer I *may* get along to one of these, but it'd probably have to be with the kids in tow, 'cos my wife works wed-fri nights.

I'm ok to host.

Only a very small stone shed...so not really the space for mucky stuff (meaning bigger workshop crafts IainC )

crafts

I hope I don't put a damper on the workshop craft nights but.......

in the case of an evening of mechanised tool using - ie wood turning, routing etc I don't think that 'children' should attend - this is purely on a Health and Safety aspect. A workshop is a very dangerous place even for adults.

I guess I'll get hauled over the coals for this comment but would you be able to forgive yourself if your child is maimed at such an event.

I know that some children are interested in such crafts but lots aren't.....

Fire away!!!
Smooth Hound

thats true

I know what you mean, you certainly wouldn't want kids running about at something like that.
Julie

Quite reasonable, I specified no kids when I ran one too.
monkey nuts

I agree too Bracken. I would take the youngest (nearly 9) to the knitting type of craft night without any worries but definitely not ot this type of craft meet. I have enough to worry about trying not to damage myself and the equipment (when people are silly...I mean nice enough to let me use it     )

I think that this is very sensible advice indeed.
Smooth Hound

wrong thread sorry
Maria

Think it's time I offered to host.

It's a fair round trip for me to get to SH's and I think??? there are folk over this way who  might be interested but can't always make it to SH's? ?

WG - I WILL get you to a craft night soon - even if I have to come and get you If you don't want to try your hand at the crafts you could be the crafty memory saver, and take lots of pics - of the crafts not me please...where's mi paper bag!!!!!!!
andybebbington

Paper bag for me too i hate having my photo took

I will host the natural dyes workshop and an expedition to look for materials in the summer when the weather is better
The dyeing will need a whole day so it could be on a weekend day.
We can gather the plantstuffs we need in an afternoon or on a nice evening and make it into two separate days as the dyeing and mordanting will be time consuming.
I do have everything we need already - mordants, a range of dried dyestuffs, even acid dyes, but it might be nice to actually go for a collecting hunt to make the whole process feel more complete. I might learn a bit more that way if anyone there is a plant expert We could make up some Cudbear dyes to use later on the dyeing day too.
Anyone who can't come to the collecting day can still join in the dyeing day but we might have to limit the numbers if there are too many people, or it could finish up that half of them don't get a look in.

Only provisions will be; no kids and no outdoor footwear in the house.
Smooth Hound

sounds good
wildgarlic

I'd love to come on the plant hunting expedition.

Happy to host a craft evening here too - pottery will happen at some stage in the summer.

Do we have any wire jewellery experts here - I'd love to have a go at that.
Smooth Hound

what do you mean by wire jewellery
Smooth Hound

i meess around with wire/stoe and beads, and have made the odd chain from wire, but expert is not a description i would use

pictish is particularly good at this sort of thing though
Julie

Do you think she would be interested in giving us a demo? It would be nice to meet her too.
Smooth Hound

pm her and ask
Julie

OK
KatP

Ooh, the gathering and dyeing workshops sound fab! Part of my plan for the garden includes a mediaeval dyers garden, sadly very much a plan at present.

When we've got a bit more organised (.....well, probably a lot more organised really!) could happily host all sorts, plenty space in barn or even fields for anything messy, reasonable spae indoors for more crafty stuff.

Probably not for a while though. Really need to get the place at least a bit more ship shape first! This working lark's a real pain sometimes!
Smooth Hound

dont worry about it being too ship shape ill take a note thanks, i cant wait to see more on this dying either, im the type of person that learns by trying as opposed to reading up, i need to put the reading with the doing it   if you see what i mean
Maria

KatP. Great to have another crafty soul here.
Julie

Ditto

Dyers garden

Dyers garden sounds fab!!! I keep meaning to grow my herbs in a more medicinal, 'aware,' way, every year, 'this year it will happen,' then I just grow the usual ones and use them in cooking etc but would rather grow a bigger variety for more usage.

It's all still plans at the moment sadly.

Am bit too crafty at times. Really must learn to finish things

Crafts

I know the feeling, Pottery is my first love but there's painting, decoupage, candlemaking, jam making, kits like snow globe making, most of these with the kids. Then there's life, family, animals.... and on and on....not to forget gardening
