Forget-me-Not

Wood/pot ash query

Read this morning that woodash not only good as mulch on fruit but if put in hen house with flooring, neutralizes smell and makes the resulting compost from flooring incredible.

We have a woodburner and can use ash from this when it's lit but I want to be sure, I understand this right, for the benefit of my chooks. Also my neighbours also have fires and use wood, so would have ash I could ask for BUT if they've burned coal too, I imagine this can't be used???

Also have seen pot ash for sale in boxes in garden centre, never bought any, is this similar different to the woodburner stuff? (Sorry maybe stupid question but it's new to me) as am wondering about further increasing improving yields for plants/chooks etc without necessarliy going and buying something have never used before.

im not certain about chickens flooring, but it would be good for the garden, id probably put it on the compost, but dont over do it, you dont want a big pile of ash and nothing else, which could easily happen in the winter,

wOOD ASH

right now I've two compost heaps which are mainly alternate piles of grass clippings and chicken clean outs, with kitchen food scraps, garden waste and heavy digging over by chooks with some angled nudging and chimney making with stick fromme.
