Wood carving tools for children

would much appreciate some advice on wood carving tools for children -  my 11 year old son has been showing an interest and i'd like to get some tools to get him started.  Would prefer if they weren't too pricey but would like them to be good enough quality so as not to put him off the craft before he gets the hang of it.

Also suggestions on the best woods to start on - and whether green or dried

Many thanks in advance

cherry would be good, maybe lime, it can be carved green or seasoned, but the green will obviously change as it dries, with splits etc, both are nice in there own way, id try green and seasoned for different results
