Wood burning Stove help

We have just uncovered our fire place.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the chimney has a metal liner. I assumed it would be for a wood burning stove, as it is on the 1st floor of the house and the village doesn't have gas lines.
It seems a little thin compared to the lining I've felt for a wood burning stove.
Is there anyone close to me that has some knowledge of this and could tell me if it's suitable for using with a woodburning stove?

Happy to barter help for some home made goodies. baking, crochet etc.

Not close and I've not seen a liner for a stove either, but did wonder if maybe it's just been a thin metallic liner to duct the air in/out of the fireplace when it was blocked up? Stop it getting so dirty, etc?

Hmm whay go to the expense?
The house is 3 storey. was blocked up with just wooden frame and plasterboard. no vents or actually blocking up of chimney.

Unlikely then I guess. Dunno how thick the liners actually are, would imagine that they are fairly thin to allow them to bend round the kinks in a chimney anyway.

If the liner is a thin corrigated steel typs of liner it should be filled in at the back with cement.  If not you will have to get this done.

Easy to find out as there will be signes of it at the bottom of the liner and if you tap the liner it should be solid and not move.  Any hollow sound should be treated with suspicion as these lines will not take the heat of a chimney fire!

Some people put down small rubble around these liners and this is not good, if there is a chimney fire the liner gives and the rubble collapses.

If it is for a gas fire it need not be lined with cement as there is not a risk of chimney fire.  No gas in village means it is unlikely to have been used for gas unless propane.  Open flued gas appliances should not be in a bedroom anyway.

Look to see if there is soot, this would indicate it has been used for coal or wood.
If this is the case, then check the liner has had cement pored down around it.
Check the flue with smoke to make sure it only appears at the top of the chimney and no where else.  Smoke should go straight up the flue.

my guess would be thatits been done, there was probably a small stove at sometime, i would definately brusgh it though, what sort of diameter in inches is this metal pipe

we have just put one in our house, there are different sizes for different fires and should be double lined between floors, we have some left over if you need to see it.
we are coming through your direction Sat. morn on an airport run if you would like me to bring it round  and Richard would also take a look for you if you like.
