What to do in AlfordFor children (of all ages from 0-90) there is the Grampian Transport Museum http://www.gtm.org.uk/ - there are even some green events, most notably the Shell Greenpower Challenge on 20/21st June and the Horse Power and Family Fun Day sounds like it might be interesting!
The Alford Heritage Centre is a fantastic place. If you haven't been yet, take a look next time you are in Alford. Even children will find something of interest here. The Alford Heritage Centre website is under construction but here is what the Alford.org.uk website has to say
| Quote: | | An extraordinary, emotive and slightly eccentric collection of objects, images and books housed in the old auction mart – itself of great interest since it is the only one left standing : and it’s big – the tractors take less than 10% of the space, which just about leaves room for the thousands of other exhibits : “a’thing fae claes washers tae neep hashers” It’s definitely the place to remember in Alford. |

A trip to Alford wouldn't be complete without a ride on the Alford Valley Railway - the line takes you on a scenic route into Haughton Park where you can get off and explore, have your picnic, children can play on the park etc, then you can get the train back into Alford (or walk back)
| Quote: | | The railway has at present two coaches: one a purpose-built 50-seat carriage, named the ´Silver Jubilee´; the other, a former Aberdeen tram-car, dating back to 1895, and rescued from an ignoble end as a summer-house near Ellon by the dedication and painstaking effort of the Alford Valley Railway. |

Haughton Park is a great place to visit - it's free for starters and is beautifully landscaped. Lots of trees of varying ages and plenty for the children to do.
There is a caravan site and camping area too - who says you can't camp close to home? If you fancy a spot of fishing you can buy a fishing permit from the caravan park reception. There are also riverside and woodland walks.

Alford has a skate park to keep the brave amongst us amused.
Also in the same area as the skate park is the ski slope. There are open sessions, ski lessons and best of all, tubing sessions. Scooting down the ski slope in a hard rubber ring - fantastic fun!!!

We went to the Alford heritage centre and were very impressed. I thought it would be a bit thin on exhibits and dusty and dull but it was fascinating. Thoroughly recommend it. so much so Im planning a second visit at some point.
