Wed 20 May

Gosh there's been no weather on NEEPS for a week
Huge thunderstorms here today with torrential downpours, we've had at least 5 power cuts so far this afternoon, anyone else?
Chooks are sheltering and horses and ponies have gone back indoors, unheard of normally
Houseful of smelly dogs though
lachlanandmarcus

golly no, no powercuts here tho we had one in bad weather a few weeks back.
mix of sunshine and showers here, but not as much as the last few days!

powercuts

we had a short power cut at home this afternoon - lasted about half an hour. Then we had thunderstorms for the rest of the day (til 5pm).
The sun was out when I left for work but as I approached Rosehearty there was a huge storm cloud just out to sea. It came ashore as I left my car - typical!! - and now the rain is stotting down and bouncing back up to 6 inches!!!!

The upshot is - there is a fabulous rainbow!!

I see that BBC have just issued a severe weather warning for NE Scotand, with lots more heavy showers and possibility of thunder

Glorious morning here, sunny, warm breeze.Went very dark about 1.30 followed by loads of thunder. The heavens opened about 2pm for about an hour. Then it cleared up until we had another steady shower about 6pm.Now we've got cloud but no wind or rain.Just lit the fire-temperature dropped right down.
Smooth Hound

i had terrential rain, with a 2 minute spurt of massive halestones, beat that
Maria

We had hailstorms too - about 3-ish, when B came back from school.

Was beautiful weather in Dyce this morning, took an early lunch and went for a wander to the shop for something to drink (picked the furthest away shop for a decent walk ).

Came back to the office and about 30-40 mins later it really p**sed it down. 30-40 mins later and you'd never have known, 'cos the sun had come out and the roads, etc were bone dry. Did the same on the way home tonight and it's been fine ever since too.
Smooth Hound

are you sure your in the same country its been miserable here all day the gardens had a good water though
IainC

Maybe only those of us who're blessed get the good weather then
Smooth Hound

I WANT thunderstorms! I love them! Sod this warm sunny rubbish

my kids don't like lightning.

I can see the point in my oldest, my youngest I think has just picked it up from her.

a while back, we had the worst lightning I'd ever seen/heard in my life. Almost seemed like it was centred round the house. After the event I found out that there were three seperate instances, all of which were in the region of the house in different directions.

We'd gone to bed while it was starting... after an hour or so I went thru' to check on my daughter to find her wide awake, eyes open, scared sh******. Picked her up and took her into bed with us... spent the next couple of hours wide awake as well waiting for something in the house to explode... thats what it felt like.

Ended up "moving" my daughter from the bedroom she was in, to another bedroom in the house, to try and help stop her feeling "iffy" whenever there was thunder and lightning, the two of them are back in the same room now though right enough, but they are still both a bit suss about thunder/lightning these days, despite how much I assume my eldest that it's the worst *I* have ever seen or heard of.

No sign of any thunder here either Beautiful evening, sunshine and nice pink cloudy bits.
Smooth Hound

i presume you like thunder, o love it myself, the closer the better, as long as it doesnt hit me on the head its like music to me, flashes of lightning even better
IainC

The night we had it, FM... honestly was waiting for it to "explode" the bedroom window... honestly woke up expecting to see the garden either in flames or parts of it burnt... you could feel the electricity in the air... the whole room felt electric and that anything could happen IYKWIM... the daughter wasn't the only one clinging on IYKWIM

Scary! But still amazing. The two best storms I've been in was  firstly, 1987 in Keith, Moray. I woke at 4am one August morning to a distant rumble. I looked outside and the sky was dark green swirling mass. It looked like blinking Ghostbusters. Me and the kids sat and watched it from upstairs bedroom for 3 hours. It was overhead within 30 mins and seemed intent on blowing Keith off the face of the earth (no bad thing in retrospect..). . We lost power for the  day and I lost sleep for abou days t 3 cos the kids were too frightened to go to bed again lol!

The second was on the island of Menorca 2006. A proper Med thunderstorm and it was just out of this world. The sky was pink and purple and the lightning was just shooting everywhere. We sat on our rooftop like idiots with a bottle of wine watching it until the biblical rain started....
