WaxwingsJust seen a small flock of Waxwings in a Silver Birch in our garden.
Very exciting, never seen them before.
I understand someone reported a small flock over Strathbeg yesterday - wonder if they're the same ones?
Anyone else got new winter visitors this year?
Kind regards

Oh how cool - I've only ever seen them once and that was near Lumsden a few years back. Get your camera out in case they come back

We seem to have a lot more birds about than the past 2 or 3 years.
I will have to take out the binoculars as I am usually in the process of going from A to B when I see something. Will have to wear them arounbd my neck.
I did spot a wren this morning - never seen one here before.
We also have lots of mallards on the burn - we usually have about 3 but this morning I saw 7

We have a woodpecker come to our garden feeder. Managed to get a photo but it is not a great picture as it flies off if you get too near the window.

TQ - you need to stay near to the window and wait for it... camera at the ready Haven't seen one for AGES but there was a family of them that came to visit the feeder when we lived in Herefordshire. Beautiful birds.

| Quote: | The birds, from Scandinavia, have appeared all along the east coast of Scotland and England, and have been moving steadily south and west in search of food.
Experts say there are already well over 1,000 in Britain, and the numbers are expected to increase still further.
Although they are occasional visitors to the UK, the numbers this year are unusually high and have been classed as an "irruption", to signify a large-scale arrival of a bird not normally found here. They have now been recorded inland as far south as Cambridge and Bedfordshire, and as far west as Conwy, North Wales. |
Could be a sign of a hard winter according to The Telegraph

Nice! I've not seen them yet. This year we've been inundated with:
Goldfinches
Coal Tits
Great Tits
Dunnocks
Siskins
All for the first time, along with our regulars:
Blue Tits, Greenfinches, Robins, Blackbirds, Wrens & Chaffinches
We also get buzzards overhead, but they've not been on the feeders yet!
It would make a fantastic photo if they did!

I'm terrible at identifying birds - and we have so many visitors. Trouble is that I have to find my specs first! Will need to get some more feeders for our visitors!
Had a family of grey wagtails in the nest box this year - didn't see the babes but missed hearing their hungry cheeps when they left. I'll have to move the box before next spring now we have the kittens!!

we've just had a sparrow hawk land on one of the fence posts today!
Only a few yards from where we were gardening
We also had our first Goldcrest the other day, but the waxwings have avoided us so far.......
