Wanna be famous?

Here's your chance to be on the radio!

From the radio 4 newsletter:

"One of our programme-making colleagues was in touch this week, looking for participants in a new series about parenting. The series will try to offer support, information and discussion about the difficulties that many experience from time to time. If you’re prepared to talk about the issues you’ve faced - particularly in the teenage years for the first programme - please email erin.riley@bbc.co.uk"

You know, much like these 'reality' tv shows, or thingslike Jerry Springer, I have never understood why folk want to air their dirty linen on a public show like that, in front of total strangers.

We have have problems and skeletons, but if I air them, I want them aired with friends. The majority of things I never talk about with *anyone*!

Well, I don't think you can call this kind of programme on radio 4 "show". They do have very informative and helpful "fact" programmes, and without the participation of Joe Public it would just be scientists having rather less meaningful discussions...

I'm with you on that one - it has a major cringe factor for me - why does anyone want to show themselves up like that? Don't they realise they keep running the repeats for ever too?

You are making this sound as if I'd invited you all to go on one of those dirty-washing shows! I fully agree with you about them - but can I please, please point out that radio 4 does not have any of those shows? I have learned an awful lot from programmes that include interviews with "real cases" - how else would you be able to learn from other's experience?

Ina, I'm sorry if I have taken your thread off at a tangent.
I have never heard this show, and shouldn't have commented on something I know nothing about.

I don't do radios - not much point when I can't hear them well enough to understand
Phil listens a lot while he is driving and often comes home full of the new knowledge he has picked up.
I can't help I'm afraid. Thankfully my teen grew up

The point is - it isn't a show... Radio 4 does a lot of factual programmes on health and other problems, for which they do interview members of the public, who've volunteered for it - they would always respect if you wanted to stay anonymous, for example. But without these volunteers, how would one learn, for example, that there are others out there who have the same or a similar problem?

I really should have given an irony warning in the title of this thread... It's definitely not a way to become famous.
