TreesCan anybody recommend a tree that would like to be planted singularly in a.... reasonably sheltered spot and would do OK?
There's a cherry type there and a willowy type and a olivyish type there already.
Would like it to be a fruit tree but not good on trees...yet

Hello there
See :http://www.keepers-nursery.co.uk/searchresults2.aspx
I searched for self fertile apple trees that 'do' OK in Northern Britain.
Have a wander around the Keepers site for ideas on other fruit types.

Kind regards

We always get our trees and hedging from here http://www.hedging.co.uk/
There prices are good and they have a massive variety to choose from, and if you get them to send you catalogue it has a section telling you the sizes the will grow to climate conditions needed, all the things you need to know to make a decision.
I know it might sound like an advert but I have always been impressed by the service I have recieved

when you say fruit, do you mean like wild fruit trees like rowan, or elder , that sort of thing, or do you mean a cultivated friut, like apples pears plums etc

TreesActually sun through leaves is an important factor, as is on lawn at front.
Haven't looked at sites yet, usual stuff. Will do today.

Have you forgotten the viking Chokeberry FMN?
You tried the candied fruit & the wine, it has lovely russet foliage in the Autumn, is open enough to look good with the sun streaming through it and grows to a sensible height for a garden.
If you fancy one of those you can get one from Buckingham nurseries.

TrresOoooh the chokeberry!!!! Last night I drank half a bottle of that! David the other half! It was supremely gorgeous, went down very well and the resulting, happy, lazy intoxication wore off nicely.
As someone who rarely finishes a glass and then gets a headache (got no headache) This tree would be a fitting idea

Glad you enjoyed the wine, Julie does make good wine.
We have both the Berberis and the Chokeberry you can have look at them when you pop over

Red wines and Sherry give me a headache too FMN, I think it might be something in the red grape that does it. Can anyone enlighten us perhaps?

The garden centre/nursery at Daviot is great for trees and advice on what grows well here.
