Our group is hosting an event with Transition Scotland for transition groups / other like minded people / projects on 5th Sept. I attach a flier with more information. There's also more detail on the Transition Scotland website. It should be a really good opportunity to see what else is happening in the area, meet new people and hopefully get inspired. The timings pretty much fit in with trains stopping at the newly reopened station in Laurencekirk.

Do put the word out amongst people you know.

You are invited to the North East Regional Transition Gathering, 5th September 2009 in Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, 10am-4pm.

"Building a grass-roots network for change in our communities"

Transition Scotland Support is collaborating with local Transition initiatives around Scotland to host regional gatherings. We hope that these will offer people in each area the chance to get together and see how they might be able to help and support one another to work towards local sustainability. Whether you're part of a local Transition initiative (or want to be!) or are involved with local food, sustainable transport, affordable housing, local energy generation, community ownership of assets, creating local jobs or promoting green living, we're hoping you'll come along and spend a day getting to know other people working in similar areas in their communities, swapping stories and sharing resources, and maybe coming up with answers to some of these (and other) questions:

What are the main opportunities and obstacles to strong communities in our area?

What can we learn from one another?

How can we work together to increase our impact?

Which organisations can help us with advice or funding?

What are your questions for active communities local to you? What could you share with other groups? The work we're all doing is vitally important in regenerating our communities and creating a future where we live in vibrant and genuinely sustainable places. We believe that there's a lot of common ground between us, and that we can all benefit from the breadth of our shared experience, knowledge and enthusiasm.

Found out today i won't be able to make it.

It's the weeked of the Huntly foody event and I'll be needed at the market.

I hope the event goes well and there will be something else of it's kind happening again soon.

I didn't make it either due to work commitments and I don't know anyone else who managed - you could try having a look at the transition scotland website to see if they reported on it - had a brief look but couldn't see anything:

No - I'd looked there already... The meeting at Forres that's coming up really is too far north for me - although we belonged to the same regional group at the local food meeting I've just returned from! There was nobody there from Aberdeenshire apart from me. Sad, really.
