Tide of plastic swamps Scotland's filthy beaches | Quote: | Tide of plastic swamps Scotland's filthy beaches
By FRANK URQUHART
THEY are manufactured in their millions, carelessly flushed down the toilet and then washed ashore, making Scotland's beaches among the worst in Britain's litter league of shame.

I am bemused. What do folk use them for? I was always told never to put anything smaller than my elbow in my ear

Just one more of the pointless toiletry items on sale.
There really are some waste of space gimmicks on the shelves though aren't there - those little plastic gismos for flossing if one is too idle to use a piece of floss the traditional way ;stick-on fingernails - gross; toe separators for pedicures; orange sticks - who uses them and what for? ; eyelash curlers (my cousin was using hers in the car and her husband deliberately drove down a hole and she pulled all her eyelashes out )

I confess - I use them. But I use the all cotton, organic variety, and they can be composted.

I was roped into a beach clean up last year in Portsoy , it was amazing at what we found !!! but everyone moans about the state of our beaches and there were only half a dozen adults there. What is this teaching our kids ? The scouts etc came but who really gives a **** if they did they would have joined us. I listened to one little girl who turned to a friend and said where is everyone . The beach was cleaned up and drift wood burned and the scouts made a bar b que . The kids had a great time.
