Those bug houses for lace wingsRather than spend quite a bit on a box full of chopped canes, cut holly hock stems into small lengths, having collected the seeds, tie together with raffia or string into a bundle and hang somewhere. Free, takes few mins.

HollyhocksNot sure if they're hollow right through but a fair way from the ends, something can live in there.

Bug HousesThat should work too. I was wondering at the time whether it would be good for lighting the fire with if dry enough. There must be loads of stuff that we clear from the garden that would light the fire as well as compost.

FMN did you see that amazing insect house in Permaculture Magazine, made up of about 6 wooden pallets stacked on top of one another, and various materials stuffed in all the gaps, including tubes and things. There was even provision for hedgehogs right at the bottom. I'm collecting pallets for one but haven't got enough of the same size yet. I LOVE pallets! S-a-d!

I make my compost bins out of four equal-sized pallets tied at corner with baler twine.
I recently wanted ONE white plastic food bucket so asked at JGRoss in Inverurie - they gave me over 20 of them with lids. Fantastic for storing foodstuffs in, but I can only use so many!!!
I am hooked on recycling.

Bug thingYes i thought it was brilliant!!!!!1 Planning to when live in a house without shared garden, it would be beautiful to me but I suspect a step to far for my neighbours. One of my compost is pallet made too, is fab!!! My other two are stacked wooden recycled raised beds, so can be moved to access bottom.
You could probably make a womery with some of your tubs!!! Mine was bought by my mum but it's just stackable rectangular plastic boxes with a lid on top and tap at bottom. Not exciting watching though, very slow.

P.S. Hung my bug thing in greenhouse at moment and have one half done for veggy patch.
