The next step

excuse the pun!!

Thought I would update you all on BBH again. He is now 23 and spends every trip outdoors in a wheelchair and most of his time in pain. Some of you may already know but for those who don't..after his latest visits to his specialist it has been decided that he is now to have a below knee amputation. He knows this is the only way he can have anywhere near a normal life and is very positive about it. He is very brave and he has already been through so much. Lets hope this is the operation he will need to endure.
He should be scheduled around July/August for the operation. We have been to see the team at the prosthetic clinic and they are wonderful...nine of the staff came in to tell us what to expect..BBH had a chance to look at and hold some prosthetic legs and was wowed by some of the designs!! Think we will need to re-name him RoboChris!!!

everything crossed for youx

Thanks for the update MN - it's great that you're getting all the info and help from the team. Robochris - I like that

Keeping everything crossed too   please let us know how things go. July seems so long away...but I know it will be here next time I blink.  I don't know much about this so please excuse me if it's a silly questions. Will the op mean an end to the pain?

Don't know too much either as yet but I am sure we will learn. He should not have anywhere near as much pain as he has now but will still have some, which should leeson in time. He has also been told about phantom pain and phantom sensations...like an itch on his non-existant toes!!

Please don't worry about asking ANY questions, feel free to ask whatever you like. I am an inquisitive person and I like to know stuff too and will ask anyone about anything I am curious about I know this is soppy but..it's lovely that this comunity goes on the journey with you..like SH's operation...kinda comforting!

how is bbh monkey nuts, any word on when his operation will be
lachlanandmarcus

thinking of RoboChris and his itchy foot, let us know how he gets on and wishing him and you all the best for the op...he will also be eligible to qualify for the 2012 paralympics which i think are more to the spirit of the olympics than the able bodied version!

Chris (BBH) has the date for his operation..the 5th Nov. Not a date I am likely to forget seeing as it is also my birthday so guess what I will wish for this year. He is still feeling very positive about the outcome but is understandibly nervous about the hospital stay, I wish I could go through it for him, will be soo hard to just watch and support.

If you pray or able to send healing thoughts and wishes, please do so for him. Thank you x
Thrawnquine

I send very best wishes to Chris for his forthcoming operation and will send absent healing to him and the rest of the family.   Please let us know how things go.

Chris was put into the high dependency unit straight after his operation but is doing well. His pain is becoming an issue but hopefully it will be sorted soon. He still has his wicked sense of humour though, asking me to scratch his big toe as it was sooo itchy it was driving him mad.... that and the face he pulled when he realised that the boxers he was wearing when he went into theatre were no longer on    Things will get better from now, onwards and upwards...
andybebbington

glad all went well for you and he has his sense of humour still
Thrawnquine

Glad to hear Chris is doing well after his op.
Maria

Great news (not the pain....hope that eases for him soon!!). Sounds like you have a formidable comedian there.    I admire his strength. It must be really difficult knowing your body/life has changed so quickly. I hope plenty of support (other than wonderfab mum) will be available for him to adapt to the change?

Wishing much luck in the days to come.
Smooth Hound

im glad to see things are going well, having a sense of humour helps alot.
give him my best

Thanks everyone

Chris is back on the ortho ward. The pain in his leg is now under control but he has been poorly all day with a migraine   Things are still going to plan re the operation though so all drains should be out in the morning so I am sure this will make him feel much more comfortable.

The nurses have been fantastic, allowing me in the wards all day with him, although this is very tiring (as there is nothing to do IYSWIM) it is helping both of us. I will pass on your best wishes xx
