syphoning petrolHi
My stupid clio has finally died. But I filled it up with petrol before it did, so it has £30 of petrol in the tank that I want back before it goes to the scrap yard.
Is there an easy way of syphoning it out?

get a couple of containers and put it under the tank, you need 2 people, one changes the container when its full, whilst the other sticks his finger on the hole you drill in the bottom of your tank,

A length of plastic tube and a basic syphon pump (about £7 from Halfords) or try sucking to create the vacuum, but it ain't good for you!

I should ask the people who syphoned my oil tank last year, allegedly.
They busted their car in the process Oh dear how sad!
Hope they got a fine too!
Sometimes it pays to add fuel additives even it if doesn't work in the way it was intended! 8)
How do I know this, 'cause I didn't see it?..2000 ltrs used less this year than last sounds mighty suspicious and they aren't adverse to thieving from their neighbours

use a hose like Lord_Azrael says....put a container on the ground.....push in hose(i got mine from B&Q), and suck....just dont let the petrol get to your mouth....works a treat (this is from experiance....had to do the same to my Yugo a few years back)... wouldnt recomend drilling the fuel tank....if you get it wrong you may be in for a bang hehehe

Not sure I'd want to drill a hole in a tank full of petrol to be honest!

its fine, i would imagine its plastic anyway, you wont cause a spark with a drill, if your worried do it on slow

I don't doubt that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but liquid petrol will not explode and is actually much safer than a tank with a little petrol and lots of fumes.
Most modern cars have an anti-syphoning device fitted to stop a pipe being put down into the tank.
Have a look and see if there is a drain plug on the bottom of the tank, a lot of tanks are fitted with one nowadays.

Sorry if I'm wrong about this, but don't petrol tanks accumulate a bit of gunge in the bottom??
If it is right, you wouldn't want it mixed in with the fuel.
I suppose you could leave it to stand until it had settled.

i should say that the newer cars are much safer to drill the older cars however i wouldnt trust in drilling and as sass say's.....there is usually a valve somewhere that you can open on newer cars to drain off fuel.
