summer holiday activities

It’s summer and many young people’s thoughts turn to spending time with friends, having fun and adventures, perhaps even going to the beach with a bucket and spade.

Aberdeenshire Council’s summer programme of activities kicked off this week and with more activities than before there’s plenty for young people to do from skiing or surfing to – forget sandcastles – building aliens on the beach.

Summer holiday activities across Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen are on offer until Wednesday August 12 when all groups will meet for a barbeque at Balmedie beach.

Instruction and transport is provided in the cost of £15 per day.and ten pick up points across the area are available from Fraserburgh to Stonehaven.

The programme is for 11 to 16 year olds and will run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over the school holidays.

The Aberdeenshire Childcare Partnership funds the programme, now in its third year, and aims to provide stimulating activities for young people who are too old for conventional childcare but too young to be left at home alone.

Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee Councillor Richard Stroud said: “The summer holiday programme gives young people the chance to try out different activities and make new friends and helps parents out too as they can rest easy knowing that their children will be picked up, entertained, looked after and dropped off back home – happy.”

Sports development officer Rachel Boal, said: “This programme just gets better and better – from the feedback over the last two years we know which are the best and most popular activities and have been able to put together a really great programme.

“We have also recruited some very enthusiastic and capable staff to look after the groups.”

The programme in full and the booking forms are at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/holiday or available by phoning 01467 628283.
