Strange Eggs!!

Ok, although we have hatched eggs under broody hens before. I am having trouble with duck eggs in the incubator.

The first two weeks appear to go ok, the candling at day 6 seems to go fine. This is the second batch of eggs that about 3 weeks incubation time, some of the eggs start too discolour.

The best way to describe the discolourit is as a Port Wine birth mark, I am assuming this is the embryo haemorraghing (spelling??) inside. Again assuming there is an issue with turning the eggs that is causing it.

Anyone seen this before or offer advice??

I don't know - we've not had problems with duck eggs in the incubator but we used one that turned the eggs automatically and also had a humidity regulator.

What incubator are you using? How are you turning the eggs (and how often), and is your humidity ok?

I'm putting some eggs in my inci this weekend. Do you want to put a few in to check on the eggs. As long as you promise to take the ducklings home when they hatch lol

I can remember being told that if you were hand turning eggs that you must turn them in both direction rather than always turning them clockwise (or anticlockwise) Because the weight of the yolk tends to keep it facing the same way up, turning the egg in one direction tends to "wind up" the little spring like chalaza that suspend the yolk in the middle of the white. I don't know whether this would eventually break and cause the problems you are having, but it might be worth considering

Candled your duck eggs and out of 7 eggs there is one empty, 5 fertile and growing and 1 I am unsure about - it has a red circle rather than a "spider" so I think it only managed the first couple of days then died.
Doing much better than my bought in Poland eggs, but not surprising really. I bought eggs of Ebay (I know  ) which were posted to me in an ordinary egg box which was enclosed in a padded envelope !!!!!
