Stomach bug sweeping the countryStomach bug sweeping the country
| Quote: | People struck down by a stomach bug sweeping the UK have been urged not to go back to work.
Doctors estimate more than 100,000 people a week are catching norovirus, which causes diarrhoea and vomiting.
Workers need to remain at home for 48 hours after the symptoms have gone and stay away from surgeries and hospitals, the Royal College of GPs warned.
The Health Protection Agency confirmed the number of cases this year is the highest since 2002.
Norovirus - also known as winter vomiting disease - is the most common cause of infectious gastroenteritis in the UK. |

When I was in Japan, their treatment for the tummy bug (as well as dysentery) is miso soup, rice and pickled sour plums (umeboshi). I have found in the past when one family member comes down with the bug, innoculation to the rest of the family not yet affected with miso soup seems to help fight it off better - with grumbling tummy and only feeling slightly icky at the least or the illness isn't so violent and you recover quicker. Apparently to do with beneficial bacteria that is used in the fermentation (similar to bio live yoghurt).

The Western equivalent of that is Coke and savoury biscuits... The Coke contains that many chemicals and acid that no bug survives!
