Smallholding on radio 4Today "Farming today" was all about selfsufficiency, urban smallholding etc. They interviewed Paul Waddington, author of a book on modern smallholding.
"Is it possible to be self-sufficient in the back garden of your inner-city property? Author Paul Waddington tells Farming Today how he gave it a go. Meanwhile the chicken taste test debate continues as one major supplier doubles the amount of free-range poultry it currently produces."
And tomorrow's "Farming today this week" promises more along the same lines:
"FARMING TODAY THIS WEEK: Saturday 22nd March
Why put up with the morning rush hour when you could be collecting fresh eggs from beneath a warm hen or scratching the neck of your friendly pig? In ‘Farming Today This Week’ Mark Holdstock examines the return of the smallholder.
In the 1970s the desire to drop out of the rat race produced a whole generation of ‘good-lifers’ anxious to turn their three or four acres into a self-sufficient lifestyle. Rapidly rising food prices and the threat of much worse to come is helping to drive a revival of the small-holding movement. So how do you go about creating your rural nirvana?"
And yes, you'll have to get up pretty early if you want to listen to it "live" - but then, that's what you do when you are a smallholder!
Or you could "listen again" at a more convenient time online...
