Small cardboard packagingI thought this might be worth passing on.
Like most of us on Neeps we save loo roll middles for planting parsnips and such in, so this isn't a new concept of course.
Some of the smaller packaging is also suitable for this purpose, so I save any square cardboard boxes for Gordon to plant larger things like tomatos and peppers in. You know the sort of thing, light bulb boxes, applicator tampon boxes, anything that sort of size because, like the tubes, they will break down in the soil over time. You can always peel away the thin layer with the coloured surface on it if you are concerned about adding it's chemical content to your soil.
We burn whatever we can safely burn in the Rayburn firebox but very large boxes and very small stuff can be used in the garden usually.

Being new to gardening I'd never thought of that, thank you Julie! I usaully rip up small cardboard for the compost but next year, now I'm learning more, will hopefully have some more creative uses too

It might be a good thing to use for plants you want to give away. That way, you don't need to worry about whether your plastic pots are returned, those things all add to your costs too.
