Sloe gin

Just a tip - the blackthorn hedges are blossoming now, little white flowers, so make a note of where they are near you for the autumn when the sloes are ready to pick to make sloe gin.  I thought we hardly had any blackthorn up here and was amazed at how many bushes there actually are.  We've got some in our garden, so I know they bear fruit.

We have a few hedges that appear to have sloe's flowering each year but they never produce any sloes.

We use damsons instead of sloe.

equal quantities of damsons and sugar in a jar, fill to the top with gin.  Turn once a week for two months.  Open, sip, fall over.

Sloe Gin

I planted 3 damson trees a couple of years ago, but the deer keep nibbling them and they are now smaller than when we planted them.  Probably a good idea to replant them nearer the house!
