santa at christmasif you are looking for somewhere to take the children at the weekend 'santa' is at the bin forest. we went last year and the year before it is low key and non-commercial and the kids get to make a wooden toy and everyone can get a drink and shortbread or mince pies. the forestry run the event and ask for donations

Thanks very much for that! Sounds a good idea.

Went last year too. The candle lit walk up to Santa was lovely - chilly but worth it - as there was a warming log fire and a cuppa waiting.

Nice one, take the kiddies to see a strange man in the woods who wants to give them stuff.
Then spend all next year telling them not to
Only joking of course, but what a great scam for a paedophile at this time of year. Quite a worrying thought isn't it?

Yes worrying - but this REALLY hurts - and I'm not quite sure why?
Is it because when my first child was born I was against lies about fictional personalities like santa/easter bunny/toothfairy. Yet I still told the stories - and continue to tell them to my 2nd? Or is it about last years lovely jolly into the woods (which I would recommend to others)? Might I really be encouraging my child into the lap of abuse?!
But this is not the place - so I'll post something in the debating chamber shortly. See you there??

While I understand what you mean... isn't it sad that these days we think that way... don't think I ever gave a second thought to that kind of thing even just 10 years ago (mind you... eldest is 7yo, so probably would never have entered my mind anyway before she was born).

Oh crumbs, I didn't mean to suggest you were all doing the wrong thing. I can't imagine a lovelier setting for a Santa visit than the forest.
It's just my odd, ironic way of looking at life occasionally.
I think I spoiled a nice thread here and I'm sorry for that, it wasn't intentional
