RIP Jade

Quote:
The reality TV star died with her mother Jackiey Budden at her side at her home in Upshire, Essex, at 3.14am on Mother's Day.

"My beautiful daughter is at peace," Ms Budden said.

Speaking outside her home, wearing pyjamas with a coat over the top, she added: "Family and friends would like privacy at last."

Referring to how her public battle with cancer has raised awareness of the disease, Mr Clifford said: "I think she's going to be remembered as a young girl who has, and who will, save an awful lot of lives.

"She was a very, very brave girl. And she faced her death in the way she faced her whole life - full on, with a lot of courage."

He said it was "ironic" that the 27-year-old - who had two young sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four - had died on Mother's Day. Mr Clifford said he hoped Goody's family would now be left in peace to grieve.

Goody's friend Kevin Adams, who was also there when she died, left the house visibly upset and dressed all in black. He declined to comment to reporters outside the home.

Mourners started arriving at the house to pay tribute to Goody within minutes of the news breaking. They left floral tributes at the gates of her home. Later, two police officers arrived at the house.

Harpal Kumar, Cancer Research UK's chief executive, said: "We are very sad to hear of Jade's death and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this devastating time. Her brave battle with an aggressive form of cervical cancer has received widespread public attention and encouraged thousands of women to seek advice on how to prevent the disease."

hopefully this news will show people how vital it is to get a smear test when offered and how quick things like this can kill
Sassinak

I know that having a smear test done is not the most dignified procedure ever, but if it detects changes early then it is worth 5 minutes discomfort
Have it done for your kids benefit if not your own

I think "dignity" is what sums up what's just happened - I think we've just lost one of the most underestimated women of our generation - she was loud, brash, and undereducated, and seemed to stand for so many things that were empty and meaningless.........
But from the moment she discovered that she had what was a losing battle on her hands, she became somebody very special, she bore a vile illness with immense dignity, gave not a moment of pity to herself; but instead set about making sure she left behind a legacy for her kids - in the only way she knew how - how fitting that she left us on mother's day. There is indeed a very bright new star up there for her kids to follow with great pride........

I've still no idea of who she is but I guess she was on telly and we haven't had one of those for a while.
Anything that helps cancer treatment is good though.

Julie

James, she was one of those people who became famous on the reality TV show, Big Brother. She was pilloried by the press for being thick and ugly (she thought East Anglia was somewhere abroad) and all her other companions in the house cruelly made her the butt of the joke, frequently. She earned my respect then for taking it all so good humouredly and as events turned out, she finished up more popular with the public than just about any other housemate. She also made the most money of any housemate since.
When she knew she was not going to beat her cancer, she openly said that she would make as much money as she could out of the publicity, to leave behind for her two children. A little unorthodox, but it was a means to an end - not so thick after all, eh?
Do you not even keep a radio at home though? It would keep you abreast of current affairs if you listened to Radio 4. It has a surprising amount of programmes and articles relating to green issues too. I'm sure you would enjoy it. They serialise books and have an afternoon play every day too.

oh yes we have a radio and I do keep upto with news but not what I would call entertainment news. Even though her cancer was reported on mainstream news then they all assumed that people knew who she was!

Thanks for the update!
Julie

I know what you mean. I don't care much for newspapers myself.
In all the years that that programme has been running, I never once clapped eyes on a newspaper article, despite them being displayed on the stands in the supermarkets etc. Any knowledge of what the papers said was always second hand through some other medium.
If you aren't interested in one aspect of the media, you simply don't take any notice of it do you?
I could give up TV with no qualms but not Radio 4 as well. It's nice to have something to listen to when I'm spinning etc.
