Review of the Marr Local Community PlanReview of the Marr Local Community Plan
Residents in Marr will have the opportunity to contribute to the Marr Local Community Plan through a series of forums which take place in August as well as a survey available at local libraries and online.
The Local Community Plan is a community-owned publication with key actions and projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the area and its development is led by the Marr Local Community Planning Group. Community projects feature alongside plans for developments in major services like health or housing.
Community Ward Representative (Ward 14) John Lewis, said: “Community comments on the plan, information on issues in your area and projects you’re planning, really help us to develop a vision of the changes that need to take place in Marr over a four year period.
“These changes impact directly on your experience of service delivery from the planning group partners and our ability to support you to realise your own projects.”
Successes from the last plan include: a pilot Telecare project aimed at supporting elderly people living at home; developments in affordable housing provision in Alford, Huntly, Braemar and Aboyne; a new brand and town anthem for Huntly; support for young people and families through the ‘More Choices More Chances’ and ‘Working for Families’ projects; a new community graveyard in Finzean; the successful community development of Braemar Castle; enhancement of the Heather Hopper bus service and completion of the Deeside Way between Kincardine O’Neil and Potarch.
Benefits for young people have included support for The Cooper Café and the Alford Youth Café a hi-tech ‘mobile learning unit’ for training and leisure for use in the Huntly Schools Network area.
New youth shelters have also been purchased across the Marr area in Huntly, Aboyne and Ballater in response to needs identified by local youth forums.
A short questionnaire is available at local libraries or online at www.ouraberdeenshire.org.uk/marr until Friday, October 30.
Leaflets for each council ward, detailing selected achievements from the 2008 – 2012 plan are also available.
