Reflexology

When my Dad died my Mum gave me a heap of his books to take home. Amongst them was one of ours which I thought we had lost years ago called 'The Reflexology Workout'. Apart from being very informative, it is also a sort of teach yourself book which I intend to spend some time studying. Does anyone else have any interest in the subject?

Joanpix is a reflexologist - hopefully she'll respond. I'd like to learn more... but really don't like the thought of someone else touching my feet. Joan has assured me that it's not ticklish but I'm not convinced lol.

properly applied, it's a wonderful healing discipline! It works on the "same systems" as in acupuncture/acupressure, and is surprisingly effective!

never had it done but would love too...... pennies never seem to run to things like this though.
i'm a great believer in alternative therapies   -  i used a homeopath when i was struggling with my divorce, cost a fortune but the best money i ever spent....its a shame GP's don't have time to follow some of the principles....

I had it done once a few years back... and loved it!

I've prob mentioned it before somewhere on here, my Oh suffers from migranes now and again, and one particular time it was really bad, so much so nothing would shift it, I set to work on massaging his feet, in particular the tops of his big toes,  this area relates to the head, within 5-10mins he was loads better and fell asleep lol

unfortunately, the forces of darkness are at work.........there's a concerted campaign going on to discredit homoeopathy, and our nearby homoeopathic hospital is closing
France, on the other hand, continues to embrace both it and herbalism, to great effect - looks like the mega budgets of Big Pharma are at work here.....
Over the years, I've used homoeopathy, aromatherapy, traditional chinese acupuncture, reflexology, herbalism, and found them all in their own way effective and useful, far less deleterious to your general health, and probably most important of all - you're treated like a human being.........I once asked an alternative practitioner why there is so much of a difference in "attitude" between "conventional" and alternative medicine, the answer was simple and true - "medics are quite good at the plumbing, but they haven't the first clue how it works.........they learn on corpses, we always deal with the living"

I'm a bit of a cynic about alternative therapies, though to be fair I haven't tried most of them so wouldn't rubbish them at all. One I have tried was reflexology. I arranged a demo for some of my volunteers at the time and she did me (much to the amusement of the vols who didn't know I have a tattooed foot!) She told me I had a problem with my throat, which I denied. The next day, I couldn't speak. Totally lost my voice with a throat infection! Spooky.

not in the least spooky
It's just the western mindset finds it difficult to grasp the fact that there are other models of medical care, using totally different approaches!
In acupuncture, there are meridians down which energy flows - (you've probably seen the drawings of them), and there are "points" on the hands, feet and ears which connect to, and mirror the whole system - if used by a skilled practitioner, they are very effective!
If you need crude proof of it's efficacy, there was a tv programme a few years ago of a Chinese lady undergoing a major operation wide awake, possible because of the acupuncture painkilling - she was totally unconcerned, and half way through got peckish, and ate some stewed plums!
It is usually used in a far more sophisticated manner, and can address health problems that leave conventional medicine standing! The way I look at it is that herbalism started way back in pre-history, acupuncture 6,000 years ago.......all those years of clinical observation, by a lot of very clever people, and I'd FAR sooner trust that than the relatively untried dangers of chemical treatments! 8)

I'm fine about most kinds of alternative medicine. I was a cynic until I tried Reiki and discovered it worked
But not reflexology - I don't do feet
I can't stand my own touching and will go to any length to avoid touching others - with the exception being little chubby babies feet

I used to go for 'metamorphosis' therapy, which is similar to reflexology in that they massage the feet but they are working on the spiritual body rather than the physical.

It was literally life changing for me.

well im sorry to hear homeopathy is being discredited, in my world GP's should be using much more alternative therapies.......

My mum has MS and started going to Reiki and has now been taught how to Reiki herself. She's found many benefits of it and finds herself walking better after a session.

I had reflexology from a midwife and reflexology when I was a week "overdue" with my middle daughter - anything to avoid flying to Aberdeen for chemical induction.

That was at 8pm in the evening.  I awoke with a contraction at 3am and M was born at 5.30am.  The reflexologist/midwife came on shift later that day at the hospital with a big grin saying "thought I'd see you in here today".

Oh, and I don't do feet either but reflexology is actually quite pleasant.
