A rose-coloured starling has been spotted in a garden in Droman, Sutherland.
The unusual Highland visitor is usually found in Eastern Europe and Southern Asia, and is thought to have been blown off course on route to India.
The bird, which has a pink body and black head, wings and tail, was photographed by Carol Davies.
It stayed in her garden on the Sandwood Bay Estate for several days before disappearing.
There are several sightings of rose-coloured starlings in the UK every year but it is rare for them to turn up so far north.
The birds are nomadic, travelling in huge flocks to winter in tropical Asia, mainly feeding on grasshoppers and locusts.
After spotting the bird, Mrs Davies contacted The John Muir Trust.
The trust is carrying out work in the area to help protect the ordinary starling, which is now a listed species. |
