Pressure cooker question

I've acquired my Mum's old pressure cooker and was going to cook my Christmas puds in it, but have hit a snag.

The book says to "pre steam" the pud for 20 mins before bringing it to pressure. Unfortunately, it doesn't say anywhere what "pre steaming" is.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Matt tells me that pre-steaming is where you steam your mixture to melt the suet and help bind it all together...you then let it go cold and keep feeding it Brandy...about a bottle cap ful a day....then the main steaming is when you cook it the day you eat it.

Thanks Kimmie. I thought you cooked it loads, then left it and fed it (another mouth to feed) and then reheated it when you ate it?

Matt Pre-steam's it for two hours....feed it...and steam it for about an hour when you go to eat it.

maybe another mouth to feed....but its your baby...you could always  do one for you (just to check its ok) and one for the baby

Isn't the pre-steam thing just like doing it without the pressure weights on, so that the steam can still escape?

Thanks WG - that's the conclusion I was coming to.

Kimmie - I think there's confusion here as I'm refering to the pressure cooker's manual term of pre-steam, but I like the idea of checking I'm not poisoning the baby!!!
