Permaculture course (I'm a happy bunny)I've booked onto an intro to permaculture course in a few weeks time. Soooo pleased.
It will be held over one weekend, and it's not far away, Drummuir, just outside Keith. I would have posted here and let folks know...but there are no places left There are plans to hold another if there's enough interest. Any permaculture fans?
More good news...they have a bunkhouse available (at least for this venue) and the course and bunk is provisionally costed at £20

Yes - it was this course that was advertised in the LAST copy of the Green Diary.
I definitely want to learn more about permaculture - Ironworker is a fan! Please let them know that we at Neeps are interested. We could maybe even ask them to do one for us and make a weekend out of it.

I'm back and it was WONDERFUL. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
Informative, inspiring, engaging and surrounded by lovely folks, who I hope will be joining us here soon. Got lots of catching up to do at home...but I'll post here soon letting folks know what to expect-ish if they too want an intro.

Ok - I'm back and the mind's working-ish enough to let you know about the intro to permaculture weekend.
I'd already read and watched as much as I could (for free) on permaculture...and had bought and part read Patrick Whitefields 'Earthcare Manual' which is a huge book dedicated to permaculture in a temperate climate. Yet the weekend reminded me how true the saying 'an ounce of experience is worth a ton of reading' really is. If you too want to read more about permaculture here's a good starting place. Permaculture, a Beginners Guide So....it went,
Day 1
* The origins of permaculture and how it can be used
* Design principles and processes
* Permaculture planning and design
These were applied in practice by examples drawn from close to home...our own gardens/communities...and a walk around Drummuir estate that showed permaculture in action. Especially enjoyed visiting Drumuir walled garden. I'll be going back to see the grapes and wonderful varieties of apple.
* During the evening we watched A Farm for the Future. Luckily I'd seen this as I had to go home to the family, but returned in time to watch the Power of Community. Much talk followed into the evening - which was wonderful!! It's so good to know others have walked the path before you.
Day 2
* Permaculture Gardens, Forest Gardens and Polycultures
* Permaculture Design in practice (the chance to have a bash at applying the design principles to a 3/4 acre site, which it's hoped will soon be the site of a number of cob houses. )
* Permaculture in your community and life - another chance to apply permaculture to real world sites, e.g our own gardens. For me it was Bonnyton Garden (Garioch's community growing venture)
The whole weekend was, as I've already said, inspiring. Jonny Barton (who lead the course) and Rob Lovie (who arranged the course) impressed me greatly with their knowledge and application of permaculture. The other perma learners were great company - and I hope they will join us here for eco chats soon. As for permaculture in general, I'm completely hooked! I want to know more, and already feel more confident applying what I know in my day to day life. It's a marvellous tool that really can be applied to any situation...not only our gardens!
There's more....but I'm sure that's enough for now.
