Permaculture course 20/21 JuneThis was a really good course, and Jonny Barton was a really good tutor. I'm really glad I went. I told them all about Neeps and said there was a need for a permaculture north-east network, and suggested they all join Neeps.
I drove home twice past Stonehead's croft and was dying to call in but was a bit shy! Talk about productive, with all those piggies and vegetables I could see as I flashed past. Could have done with some eggs, too!

 so glad you enjoyed. I thought it was marvellous and have just spotted Townie's post on the 2 week residential course Johny is leading in Fife. Would love to go...just not sure how on earth I'd arrange to be away for 2 weeks 
Thanks for introducing neeps - hope to see some other perma folks around here soon. With luck we can arrange a north-west network group soon. Be great for sharing idea's and info and perhaps working groups for perma projects.
Ahhh shame the 'shy' bug came over you with Stonehead! Well worth you dropping him a pm in case you pass by in the future..

Meant to say 'north-east' network....doh...don't think my typing fingers are connected to my brain.
Any news of your new permaculture folks Maidenstone? Did the course give you any ideas about projects (your garden/allotment) that you hadn't thought of before?

The best thing Jonny said was to grow prickly things around our small young wood to stop deer jumping in, so am trying to tip-layer some brambles to start an impenetrable hedge. I love seeing the deer but not in our wood when they are eating the bark, breaking branches etc. We want to grow some fruit trees in the gaps and these would be real targets for the deer.
Also one of the course participants brought some books in for us to look at, including: 101 uses for Stinging Nettles, Liquid Gold - the lore and logic to using urine to grow plants, and Timeless Simplicity - creative living in a consumer society. It was good to look at them and I've just bought a couple from Amazon. We had lots of permaculture chat, which was great! You can always talk to me about it!!!

Sounds marvellous. Even though i've been on the course i envy your time-out talking perma. How goes the brambles? Would love to have a peek at that nettle book.
Me wants to talk permaculture with some regularity. How about setting that group up Maidenstone? 
I'm very very sure there are enough of us to meet from time to time and have a good ol' permaculture chin wag. Perhaps we could do a round the houses type meeting, and show off any bits of design we have in our gardens/homes or within our area - um, not very eco on the gas guzzling though i guess. Or, we could set up the odd 'outing' to broaden our perma know-how. Um, same problem here i guess. Dam...i sound like i'm talking myself out of this. There must be a way?

Yes Maria, I'm keen to have a local permaculture group. We could easily go 'round the houses' if we share lifts ... I'm not great on cycling long distances! I was very proud of our permaculture garden earlier on, but now the weeds are almost shoulder height I feel a bit embarrassed!! I can honestly blame it on the pollen as I can't do much outside at the moment, and for the last month. Great wildlife habitat though! Things are still growing though and we're getting lots of fruit from our bushes when we can find them, and the embryonic tree nursery is coming along well.
Now, how about that first meeting?
