peak oil vs peak oil demand (and its effects)

Just curious as to what others think about peak oil and the lesser known but potentially more serious issue of peak oil demand.

Im currently thinking more about peak oil demand and its effects. Basically the demand for oil is increasing more than our ability to supply it (just from physically getting it out of the ground and transporting it). Thus, irrespective of the amount left in global oil reservoirs (and they are problems with how those are estimated) then we simply cant get it out of the ground quickly enough to meet demand.

Therefore, my concern and others peoples is that the price goes shooting up. Since stock markets always over exagerate then this will trigger a stock market drop (anything from a small drop to 30's still depression) and the only way out is that the world economy crashes enough to reduce the demand sufficently.

This issue has been known for a while and Im curious what others think. If you look at what has happened during the 30's depression and 70's energy shocks then there are quite a few similarities.

I think a crash of some kind is unavoidable; it's debatable when and to what extent it'll happen.

I have been reading a bit abouit this peak oil thing, and as far as i can see some scientists recon we'll be ok til the mid century, but others think that in reality we have already arrived. An interesting read which explains it well is The end of oil by paul Roberts

sorry this is smooth hound just realised.

Basically, we need to go to nuclear power rather than wasting our oil in power stations.

have a read of the book i mentioned, i think you may enjoy it

That wink makes me think I won't...
Smooth Hound

No really, it's a good informative book. I'm trying to be friendly & put things to rest mate.

Ah ok!

I just want to know where you are going to find enough small Chinese dogs dogs to distill the oil from?
Smooth Hound

they wont, but they are starting to power jet planes on a mixture of jet fuel and soya bean oil. something i found out the otherday is that bosch and siemen are doing a joint venture, (at the moment non profitable), they have developed a stove, a sort of combination of a wok and parrafin tilly pump up lamp, they will be developing lights and heaters, anyway these lamps will run on anything from veg oil, used or new to parrafin, kerosene, they are researching them in the philipines, aparrently each person that cooks and heats etc with fire wood burns not far off a ton of wood a yr, alot as you can see, all putting more carbon into the atmosphere, soya, or should i say plant based oil is carbon free, of course there is the problem of producing the oil as im sure everyone knows, but so is there with mineral oil, plus the carbon emmision, Its ammazing what you can get oil from
Wave energy is something that we up here should be working o n as well

this is the one , there is alot about it on other sites too

It upsets me that we have so many forms of energy available to us yet we rely almost entirely on oil. Sadly Thatcher killed the coal mines which fire power stations quite nicely and had coal gas as a nice sideline. Douneray and Windscale were run by incompetent fools and shook public confidence in nuclear. That's a real shame as France are almost totally dependent on it. And if the French can run them...
The Nazis were running military vehicles on coal and wood in WW2 and that technology's been lost too. Shame.
