Parties for childrenI want to have a party for J this year but our grounds and the house are really not ideal - does anyone have some good suggestions for alternative venues that won't cost the earth. He'll be 6 - not sure how many friends he'll want to invite but usually people have invited the whole P1-3 class (around 15 I think)

what time of year will it be? a picnic party in a park or woodland might go down well, maybe with a treasure hunt before the picnic.

Can't help much sorry. I know the pool here offer party hire, and I once saw some marvellous signs in the woods that looked very much like a treasure hunt had just taken place.
We had B's party at home last year...pirate theme...lots of o'arrrr's, walking the plank, and digging for treasure. She's been to other home parties and one at Ton's of Fun at Williamsons. Do you have an adventure type play centre close to you?

There's a play place at Banchory and Oldmeldrum. They would organise everything for you i think.
What about your local hall WG. Any chance of hiring it?

One of our grandkids had a [party at the Oldmeldrum playcentre last year. They seemed to enjoy it.
Saturday's party was at Danestone community centre where you get the hall, kitchen facilities, bouncy castle and loads of bikes and cars and stuff. The sign in the window says £50 for a 3 hour party. But you have to provide your own food.
I realise that it's much too far for you WG, but thought it might be of interest to others and might give you ideas of what was available

I like the sound of the park - it's end of April so weather could be good, or not! Will investigate the play place @ Banchory but think that might be pricey. I looked at Deeside Activity Centre and they do a session for under 8s but I certainly couldn't afford to pay for 15 children to attend that. Does look excellent though.

scavenger hunts are good for outdoor parties too and if you could borrow or have a couple of tents to put up in case of bad weather it makes it a great adventure. One of Craig's favourite parties was on a beach (works for other venues) when we used a couple of outdoor barbies to reheat cooked sausages and cook bananas, had a scavenger hunt and just let them play.
