Parsnips

Am I too late to start Parsnips? Only grown once unsuccessfully before but realised I have a good spot for them.

yes I think so, they need quite an early start
Smooth Hound

too late, you could sow some carrots instead

I'm kicking myself for being too late for parsnips. Any more suggestions for doing now apart from carrots?
Smooth Hound

lettuce, spring onions, radishes
Smooth Hound

coriander, mustard, chinese leaves, spinach
Fia

done most of them, anything for later harvesting? I tried corn salad for last winter but did it too late I reckon...
Smooth Hound

not really, its the end of june, so basically perrenials you can get strong to survive the winter, or quick growing things, ill say if i think of something else
Smooth Hound

you could buy some plants ready to plant out from a nursery

Parsnips

I've pretty much done those too. I think we can keep going at the successional planting though. More purple sprouting brocolli, carrots, leeks, kale.... more chards, peas, don't know about beans.....

What's everyone else doing? I want to keep things coming for as long as possible but not endless space.

Just found my diary from last year. I sowed parsnips (not many, as i told it was too late) on June 6th, directly into the soil. Although germination was slow and erratic i did have parsnips for christmas. Maybe it's not too late? Think i'm going to raise some more in loo rolls in the poly and see if they catch up with the ones i sowed a month or so ago. I started these in loo rolls too and they're doing fine.

Didn't do a diary this year so can't remember when i started them
