Not quite twins..

This appeared in THE SUN newspaper yesterday, Bev is my cousin and we are all delighted ...

A MUM has beaten million to one odds by having two babies after conceiving TWICE in a month.

Beverley Robson, 32, carried on releasing eggs after her first conception and fell pregnant again two weeks later.

It means blonde Leah and dark-haired Lara, who come from different embryos, are NOT genuine twins despite being born the same day.

The phenomenon, known as superfecundation, usually results in the second baby dying as the older gets better nourished in the womb.

But both girls are healthy – with older Leah born at 6lbs 6oz and Lara 4lbs 4oz.

Overjoyed Beverley said: “They’re my miracle babies.

“My consultant told me I should prepare for the worst because it’s so rare for the second baby to survive.”

Beverley – who also has two sons Kyle, nine, and six-year-old Zack – found she was pregnant in January. A scan later discovered a second heartbeat.

The accounts assistant and husband Craig, 29, of Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, were warned she would miscarry Lara. Yet the girls were delivered by Caesarean on September 26.

Beverley said: “Your hormones are supposed to stop you ovulating when you’re pregnant but mine didn’t. Craig and me are thrilled, our family is complete.”

The odds of a woman having two nonidentical twins – conceived from two eggs and two sperm at the same time – are 1 in 300.

In Beverley’s case, when eggs are released at different times, the odds of producing two healthy babies add up to one in a million.

Bob Aitken, medical director at Darlington Memorial Hospital, where the girls arrived, said: “I’ve known only one case like this in 30 years delivering babies.”
