No recycling in Auchenblae

Yesterday I noticed that the recycling bins had disappeared from their usual location in Auchenblae. My friend didn't know what had happened to them - today I found out in the post office (how ever will we get any information if they close the post offices!).

The bins have been removed - i.e. taken away completely - because the neighbour complained about them. (They were next to the public loos, so there is only one neighbour this could have been!) Aberdeenshire council refuse to do house collection of recycables in Auchenblae. So how are the folks there supposed to get rid of their stuff? OK, most will have a car and get to Laurencekirk or Stonehaven occasionally - but there are quite a few elderly people who don't have a car.

Doesn't the council have a duty to collect, or at least provide bins in the village? What else is the council tax paid for?

What an old misery!
Name and shame them Ina

the bins went from stuartfield aswell they were by the village hall and are now considered a fire risk to the hall if someone sets then on fire

they were looking at alternatives but could not find somewere suitable for the villagers to use that would also be suitable for the lorries to get in to empty

they now have to take there recycling to mintlaw,
think its a bit much that we pay council tax, and they drop collections to fourtnightly and get people to drive to recycling centres, not great for the carbon footprint

The bins at Fettercairn might be closer for you than Laurencekirk, though not for people in Auchenblae.

That's my problem - officially I live in Fettercairn, although the distance to Fettercairn and Auchenblae is exactly the same. Everybody here does all their daily stuff in Auchenblae, though - nevermind what our post address says!

So if I complain to the council, they'll just tell me to shut up and go where I belong...

And of course, it's not so much a problem for me, anyway: I do get out and about in the car occasionally, I have plenty of space to store my recycling stuff; but what about those people who live in rather smaller accommodation, and have no car? There are a few of them about still!
