No free plastic bags at The Co-operative!I went to drop Laura in Alford today so that she could catch the bus to Aberdeen and I popped in at The Co-op on the way home. I was very impressed to see that there were no carrier bags at the end of the tills. You had a couple of options of bags that you could buy - a fair trade cotton one for 99p or a plastic one for a smaller amount. Apparently they stopped issuing the free bags yesterday.

They seem to have led the way on many of the green initiatives.

Yes, a great idea.
I went in yesterday but left my cotton bags in the car, so i said to the lady at the checkout that i didn't require bags and i would just put my shopping back in the trolley to which she replied, 'You'd be better using our bags because you'll have to pay for them tomorrow'!!
Thnk she's massively missing the point there!!!

Last week I was in Asda in Dunfermline, getting the OH bits n bobs for his hols and they are introducing a semi-bag free policy..
You get one free carrier bag for your shopping, any additional ones are at a cost, and they will be kept beneath the till..they do have the bag for life that you can buy.
also...
Was in M & S the other day and although they charge for their carrier bags at the tills... I went through the self checkout bit and you get a free carrier bag there defeats the purpose a bit.
Meanwhile... Tesco are handing them out willy nilly with piles of them at the end of the checkouts.

Yeah, we have a mini tesco in Dyce and I occasionally walk round to it to get something to eat for lunch and despite it only being one or two items they still ask if I want a bag... mind you I guess it's good that they at least ask rather than simply chucking them into bags automatically.
