new chicksWe were given 6 namkin eggs from cockadoodle for our broody bantam and she hatched 5. They are very small and quiet rare would anyone be interested in them as we are going in for silkies. I also have a silkie cross looking for a new home.
we also had a first cross silkie and she had chicks to a silkie cock does this make the chicks 3/4 silkie ? I know with goats we were 6 crosses before we could class them as pure but not sure about hens.

silkies are one of the more difficult breeds as they have so many criteria to fulfill before they can be classed as silkies (even poor silkies lol)
They must have fluff not feathers.
They must have 5 toes on each foot. (an extra 'thumb')
They must have blue, almost black, skin
They must have a dark blue rose comb
They must have a crest
Most silkie crosses have the crest and often the extra toe. The hardest characteristic to regain seems to be the lack of web on the feathers.
But all silkie crosses make good broodies

She is beautiful
I've got silkie eggs in the incubator at the moment. I brought them back up from Yorkshire. Black ones and white ones - in theory.
I'll let you all know how they progress
