My New ChallengeI've set myself a new challenge lol
as if I hadn't got enough unfinished projects
I have some Rhia eggs that were infertile last year and so I blew them. They have sat on a shelf ever since waiting for inspiration to strike
Well it has struck
Not an original idea, but someone on a poultry forum that I read had decorated some goose eggs. I thought I would steal her idea
I have drawn a Celtic knot on the egg (actually I traced a panel, copied it 4 times and then linked them up !! I don't draw )
I am now using the Drimel - tiny hobby drill that takes loads of cutting, grinding and polishing bits. and I am cutting out round the knot to form a kind of filligree effect - Well that is the theory, I'll post pics if it comes to anything. I can't work too long at a stretch because the vibration ties your hands in knots after a while.
Wish me luck, I think I might be being a bit over-ambitious for a first attempt

That sounds lovely - might try (don't hold your breath) and do some with some of the goose eggs.

When I lived in Toronto there was a Ukrainian area of the city and I loved to look in their shop windows. They had beautifully decorated goose eggs and my parents brought me back a similar egg from Budapest, so it seems to be a popular past-time in eastern Europe and the Ukraine. I saw mine just before I moved house but don't know where it is now. I believe the insides are filled with wax after they've been blown.

You could also get some nice effects using Batik methods and cold water dyes. It is a technique for dyeing fabrics but it would work on eggshell beautifully too. The Polish make Pysanki at Easter time, painted eggs to give away as gifts. The link tells how to do it with edible dyes.

What about a combination of filligree and colour? I think the filigree on its own will be very effective though. Look forward to seeing it.

I have 3 altogether so I will see how it goes with this one and then maybe try something different with the others

A couple of part done pictures - just in case it cracks and falls apart with the next cut - although it will probably wait until the last cut before it does that
This is just the rough cut. It will then need sanding and finishing - Gently
