muslin squares and nappy liners

Thought there might be some people interested here:

MUSLIN SQUARES:
I am considering buying some muslin squares with the next suma order but there would be far too many for me, so thought I check here whether there would be anybody interested in joining in.

there would be 10 x 6 packs at £5.50 each

if there are enough others i would order some at the August/September order. I think I only need 3 more interested people.

NAPPY LINERS
I am also thinking of buying nappy liners in bulk -

that woud be £3.54 for 200 sheets - they are the ones from Bambino Mio (does anybody have pro or cons against these?) - again I would have to buy 8 packs of these, so if anybody else is interested - though I would think that these get used up over time.

Anyway, any advice for or against these would be welcome as well - maybe it is not worth buying in bulk and one can get it reasonably elsewhere?

Cheers

Is there something you want to tell us???

Muslin squares are great for all manner of things but depending on what you want them for it might be worth buying muslin by the metre.
Jessica

It is not that I do not want to tell anybody but I am just hopeless regarding this and you never get a chance on the meets unless you are good and making announcements, which I am certainly not
wildgarlic

Blimey Jessica you dark horse!!!! Congratulations. When is it due?
Jessica

Thanks WG!

It is due next month - so I really need to get on with getting stuff together and thought it would be worth buying a few things in bulk at the start but then again it is hard to know what I will need as well. If you have any advice as to what else to consider that would be most welcome. Thought muslin squares and nappy liners should be useful.

Well hope to see you later this months ... then again you never know!
wildgarlic

I've got some things here that you can have - I'll fish them out. Do you know yet whether it is a boy or a girl? Next month WOW - September is a fab month to be born.

Congratulations to Jessica and James !!
Esther.R

Congratulations! I am also due next month but just bought 15 huge muslin squares last week otherwise would have been more than happy to join in. Can't use disposable nappy liners as we have old drains and a septic tank so we use washable fleece ones instead.

Good luck, where are you having yours? I am going down to Aberdeen maternity hospital on the 14th for a c-section on the 16th....don't suppose I might see you there, that would be too much of a coincidence
Jessica

thanks for all your good wishes!

I leave the discovery for the day and just hope it will be well and healthy until then.

Hoping for a birth without complications in Peterhead, but I guess you never know until the day, so I may see you after all Esther!

We have a septic tank, too, though with new drains, so did not think that disposable nappy liners would be a problem - thought of them as a bit thicker toilet paper - maybe I should try them first before buying in bulk - does anybody have experience with these kind of nappy liners??
Villagefarm

Congratulations Jessica & Esther!

I agree with WG, great time to be born - our three girls birthdays are all really soon, and within about 2 weeks of each other.

I've got a whole bunch of washable nappy stuff, nearly 4 packs of flushable liners, 4 unopened packs of nappy soak, loads of cotton booster liners, as well as shaped terry nappies Kooshies wraps & some Kooshies all-in-ones, first size.

Was going to put it all on ebay, but happy to sell through Neeps if someone wants all or any of it - would save on postage anyway!  Not really sure what it's worth though - could guestimate if anyone interested.

Jessica

Thanks for that Villagefarm!

I am certainly interested in the nappy liners provided they are biodegradable (which they probably all are anyhow?)

I already get reuseable nappies from a colleague of mine - bamboo ones, so I think I have enough of those.

in regard to the other stuff I am a bit ignorant as to what I actually need - do i still need to soak nappies if i use the flushable liners??

What are the cotton booster liners for?

We could probably come round this Sunday as we weather permitting go to Bennahie, otherwise before or after the Suma meet on 30.08. - just pm me with your details and let me know what is best for you

Blimey - and I thought you were going into cheese production big style!
Jessica

i did admittedly think that they would be quite versatile as well for these sort of things but maybe not worth buying just as many unless there will be more people interested
Esther.R

The flushable liners I have say ok for septic tanks but not to be used with old drains, so I am being cautious as I know our drains are rather elderly!

You don't need to soak nappies any more, they can go into a bucket dry (in a washing net thingy) until you are ready to wash them, just pop a few drops of lavender/teatree oil in there to keep things smelling nice and fresh!

Boosters are to increase the absorbancy of the nappy, either for a heavy wetter who is soaking through nappies fast, or for long wear, eg overnight.
Jessica

Thanks for that Esther - then we should hopefully have no problem in a new house with new drains

Hope all goes well for you next month - must be a pain having to come over all the way from Shetland to Aberdeen - already pitied somebody from the Westcoast who would have to drive about 2 hours to the Inverness hospital.
Esther.R

Yes unfortunately Shetland doesn't handle any high risk births or planned sections, and mine is a planned section so I am off on the plane down to Aberdeen for it, had a section last time with no problems so hopefully this time will recover as quickly and baby is fine so will not have to stay there long. Usually Shetland mums stay in for about a week to ensure all is well before they let us back to the islands.

Congratulations...I run a nappy laundry company, so have a look at our shop.  You should be fine with flushable nappy liners with a septic tank. It is the old pipes and drains that can be a problem.  However they can be composted.

What sort of nappies are you planning to use?
kimmie

wow, congratulations Jessica...we are really pleased for you both.........sorry its late, though, but my son is now 19 and 6ft 5, so i have no reason to come into this section!
Jessica

thanks for that - did not get to look into neeps much after he was born a bit early on the 31.08.

Got some reuseables from a collegue - i think it is the Bamboozles, which  i am very pleased with - though i must admit we use disposables when we go out - will have a look at your shop as well
nichep

Glad you are both well..once you get used to the nappies you'll be using them everywhere...it is like breastfeeding in public it takes a while to build up to it.

I have eco-friendly disposables, the have no chemical bleaches or plastics.  My customer often take a packet of them just to have around.

If your not far I could deliver free of charge...
Jessica

thanks Nichep - but I actually have a whole stack of the compostable moltex ones as friends of mine ones got the wrong size delivered - though he was far too small initially - anyway not going out that much so it should last for a few months!

I guess when they get low I would start looking in using reusable ones elsewhere as well - would you just take them home in a plastic bag - though it is usually quite runny really so might end up in a disaster!
nichep

We do nappy wet bags that are washable, but we also do degradable nappy sacs.

DO you use flushable liners?  They are always an option when out and about...at least you can flush the worst of it.
Jessica

Actually, I stopped using the washable liners for just now as it is often too liquid anyway - but as I said we have to use up all the disposables now anyway, which will take quite a while
